Important Word and Phrases of the Muktidata Yeshu Granth (MYG)
For each important biblical term, an English gloss is given, the MYG usage is given, then a fuller English definition is given. Then, in italics, the word or phrase from the currently most popular Hindi Bible translation, the OV Re-Edited 1904/2002 is given with a short reason for it being changed in the MYG.
Important Words and Phrases in Mattiyah (Matthew), Marcus (Mark), Lukas (Luke), Yohan (Yohan) and “The Amazing Works of the Rajdoots” (Acts)

Mattiyah (Matthew) 2:5 उन्होंने बताया, “मुक्क् तदाता का जनम य्ूवदया प्रदेश के बैतल्म गााँि मेों ्हगा। ्म य् जानते ्ैों क्यहोंवक ब्ुत साल प्ले परमात्मा के प्रवक्ता वमका ने य् अपनी पुस्तक मेों ललखा ्ै,

8. Unseen, Creator Supreme Spirit God - θεο ς – MYG - Paramatma (OV “परमेश् िर” is not clearly the invisible God, also is a word for shiva and Vishnu)
Mattiyah 3:7 जब यह्न ने अनेक फरीसी धाहममक पोंथ और सदूकी धाहममक पोंथ के लहगहों कह समपमण-स् नान लेने के ललए अपने पास आते देखा तब उनसे य् क्ा, “ओ ज़्रीले सााँपहों के बच्चह! तुम लहगहों कह वकसने परमात्मा के क्रहध से बचने का रास्ता बता वदया?
9. Guru - διδα σκαλος - (along with “κυ ριος Prabhu/Lord”) this title for Lord Jesus is found elsewhere in the scriptures - especially in John 13:13 where Lord Yeshu clearly claims these two titles. So, though not directly in the Greek text in many contexts, it is implied information in nearly all contexts and according to Hindi culture and speech we have inserted either “guru” here and in many other contexts or “prabhu” to show necessary respect for our Lord (instead of just using the word “Jesus/Yeshu”). – Matthew, Mark and John emphasize guru, Luke gives less emphasis to guru) (OV also uses guru, but does not insert it as a sign of respect when not in Greek text)
10. Disciple (follower of Guru Yeshu) shishya (OV चेले guru-shishya relationship more common)
Mattiyah 5:1 जब गुरु येशु ने भीड़ कह देखा तह ि् प्ाड़ी पर चढ़ गए और जब ि् एक स्थान पर बैठ गए तब शिष्य उनके पास आए।
11. Apostle - ἀπόστολος - (a chosen authoritative representative, ambassador, sent out by Prabhu Yeshu. See Denkar, Concise Dictionary of NT Greek), MYG - Prabhu Yeshu ka rajdoot (OV “प्रेररतहों” means inspired ones not sent ones)

12. LORD (Yahweh in OT and referenced in New Testament) - κυρι ου – Prabhu Paramatma instead of simply प्रभु to have some distinction between Prabhu Yeshu and Prabhu-Father God/Yahweh as appropriate in this reference. (OV uses simply प्रभु and no capital letters in Hindi so distinction is not noticed)
13. Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit of God - πνευ ματος ἁγίου – MYG Pavitra aatma and also Paramatma ki pavitra aatma at times to clarify that the meaning “holy man/aatma” is not referenced, but rather the special presence of Paramatma which is also used this way other contexts Eph 4:30, 1 Cor 6:11 and 11 other times. (OV also uses पहवत्र आत्मा)

15. Satan, the Devil - िैतान – (OV – same most of the time, but also has “Iblees” which is not even in the Hindi dictionary!) Satan is also referred to as a tempter “परखने वाला” (Matt. 4:3), “बालज़बूल” “इस व्यवि कह बालज़बूल शैतान से शवि वमली ्ै, जह अिुद्ध आत्माओों का िािक ्ै। Also balzabool and the ruler of the unclean spirits (Matt. 12:24) जह लहग प्रभु येशु कह न्ीों मानते, वे िैतान की भहक्त इस सोंसार के ईश्वर के रूप मेों करते िैों। (2 Cor. 4:4) और िैतान की चालहों से भी ्मेों बचाइए (Matt.7:13) तुम््ारा दुश्मन िैतान, दिाड़ते िुए िेर की तरि िै (1 Peter 5:8)
16. (Lord) Jesus – Indian cultural example of adding Lord as a title to Jesus out of respect (though not in text). See Yohan 13:13 “I am your guru and prabhu” Since Lord Jesus used these titles of himself, we also freely use them in the text according to context. Note in Luke and Acts, the term guru for prabhu Yeshu is not used, but it is used freely in Matt, Mark and Yohan according to the style of these books.
17. Wilderness - ἐρήμῳ – deserted barren land, a place of little vegetation and people - like the barren land in parts of Israel MYG - सुनसान बोंजर जगि – (OV- jangal, but this gives the idea of lots of greenry, vegetation)
Mattiyah 4:1 तब पविि आत्मा प्रभु येशु कह सुनसान बोंजर जगि मेों ले गया वक िैतान* उन्ेों परखे।
18. Son of Man - MYG Tejaswi manav putr This is an exalted title of Prabhu Yeshu, as 80+% of the time it is used in the context of his authority, power and glory, also as a reference to Daniel 7:14 and Psalm 8. We add the word
“Tejaswi/glorious” to bring out this exalted aspect, but still retain some of the cryptic aspect (son of man) as well. Even this reference below can seem humble, but the context is that this is wrong or very odd that such a powerful person doesn’t have a home to live in. (OV - मनुष्य के पुि, unclear, could be anyone, does not imply glory and power)

21. Temple – Paramatma ke Mandir (We often add “paramatma ke” because along with its forerunner, the tabernacle, it is the one and only humanly constructed temple of the unseen, all-powerful God – (OV also added the words not in the Greek text “परमेश् िर के” to मक्नदर in Mattiyah 21:12 but usually just has mandir)
Mattiyah 21:12 प्रभु येशु ने परमात्मा के मोंहदर* के आाँगन मेों प्रिेश वकया और ि्ााँ से खरीदने-बेचने का व्यापार करने िाले सब लहगहों कह बा्र खदेड़ वदया।
22. Tabernacle - tambu-mandir – tent-temple (OV मण्डप used here and तम्बू used in Hebrews, using only tambu does not make a clear connection to OT)
तब पतरस ने प्रभु येशु से क्ा, “प्रभु, ्मारा य्ााँ ्हना वकतनी खुशी की बात ्ै! यवद आप क्ेों तह मैों य्ााँ तीन तम्बू के मोंहदर* बना देता ्ूाँ - एक आपके ललए, एक महशे के ललए और एक एललया के ललए।”
23. Scripture(s) (the Old Testament, God’s Book) – MYG Paramatma-Granth -- this highlights God’s work in the whole Old Testament Scriptures book. We are using Muktidata Yeshu Granth for the New Testament, but those exact words (NT) are not mentioned in the New Testament, but it is all about Muktidata Yeshu (OV often as in Mt 4:4 will only say, “ललखा ्ै” but the meaning is, “it is written in God’s scriptures”)
Mattiyah 4:4 प्रभु येशु ने उत्तर वदया, “परमात्मा-ग्रोंथ* मेों य् ललखा ्ै, ‘मनुष्य केिल रहटी खाने से ्ी न्ीों, परोंतु परमात्मा की ्र एक बात से जीवित र्ेगा।’”*
24. Large city, town, village – shahar, nagar, gaon – Jerusalem, Rome, Antioch, Ephesus, Thessaloniki, Colossae, Corinth, Tyre and Sidon (OT), Damascus, Capernaum, Jericho are “shahar” according to modern Hindi, Mid-sized is a town nagar like Nazareth and village is gao (like Bethlehem, Emmaus, Bethany)
Mattiyah 27:32 ििर से बा्र जाते समय सैवनकहों कह लशमहन नामक कैरेन नगर का एक वनिासी वमला। उसे उन्होंने प्रभु येशु की क्रूस उठाने के ललए मजबूर वकया।
25. “Crucify him!” - उसे कीलोों से क्रूस पर ठोको! – vivid picture – Put him on the cross with nails! krus is a not a pleasant symbol of religion, but it is a brutal way to kill insurrectionists and nobodies. (OV – ि् क्रूस पर चढ़ाया जाए)
Mattiyah 27: 22 वपलातस ने क्ा, “तह वफर येशु का, जह मुक्क् तदाता क्लाते ्ैों, मैों क्या कराँ?”
िे सब क्ने लगे, “उसे क्रूस पर कीलोों से ठोको!”

27. Sabbath – MYG aaraam-divas - commonly understood, full rest, and the weekly day of celebration (divas gives the idea of a somewhat special day) of the goodness of God in the Israel community (OV - सब्त के वदन, unclear)
Mattiyah 12:1 उस समय प्रभु येशु आराम-हदवस के मौके पर खेतहों मेों से ्हकर जा र्े थे।
28. Passover - MYG Mukti-tayohar - Celebration of freedom - Refers to the way God gave mukti to the people of Israel from slavery to the nation of Egypt, Freedom festival is another way Jews refer to the Passover – (OV फस् का पिभ is unclear)
Mattiyah 26:2 “तुम जानते ्ह वक दह वदन के बाद मुहक्त-त्यौिार* ्ै। तब तेजस्िी मानि-पुि कीलहों से सूली पर ठहके जाने के ललए पकड़िाया जाएगा।”
29. Festival of unleavened bread – Roti-tayohar - roti in North India is unleavened bread, as compared to Naan or double-roti that has some leaven – (OV अख़मीरी रहटी के पिभ – Khamir/leaven is not too common for most Hindi-speakers and think of it as urdu with the Kh ke niche bindi also.
Mattiyah 26:17 रहटी-त्यौ्ार* के प्ले वदन लशष्यहों ने प्रभु येशु के पास आकर पूछा, “आप क्ााँ चा्ते ्ैों वक ्म आपके ललए त्यौ्ार का भहजन तैयार करेों?”
30. Heaven – MYG paramswarg The place/home of Paramatma and his angels. We add the prefix “param/highest” to make a distinction between the common view of swarg – temporary place with many deities, and paramswarg – the highest heaven (which the NT also does periodically as in “glory to God in the highest” (OV has simply स्िगभ – a place famous for the rule of the god Indra and many devi-devtas)
Lukas 2:15 जब स्िगभदूत उनसे विदा ्हकर परमस्िगभ चले गए तब चरिा्हों ने विचार वकया,
31. Heavenly Father, Father (with reference to God) – pita paramatma - “father God” seems to be the actually meaning of the Hebrew/Greek phrases “Father in heaven, Heavenly father” Jewish tradition would often use the word “heaven” to be simply an indirect way of referring to God (ex. Prodigal son, “I have sinned against heaven (God) and in your sight.”
(OV - तुम््ारे वपता की, जह स्िगभ मेों ्ै – this could imply someone’s father who has died and gone to heaven instead of Paramatma who is in paramswarg)
Mattiyah 5:16 तुम््ारे अच्छे काम रहशनी की तर् चमकेों तावक लहग इन्ेों देख सकेों और इसके ललए िे तुम््ारे हपता परमात्मा* का गुणगान करेों।

जैसे ्मने भी उन्ेों माफ वकया ्ै
33. Repent – bure karamon se paschataap – Repent, recognize sorrowfully the wrong of your actions and bad deeds – -- (OV - man firao – seems incomplete)
तब यह्न यरदन नदी घाटी के इलाकहों मेों गए और लहगहों कह य् बताया, “अपने बुरे कमों से पश् चाताप का समपभण-स् नान लह, तब परमात्मा तुम््ारे बुरे कमों के खाते कह वमटा देोंगे।”
35. Gentiles - MYG log jo yahudi samaj se nahin hain – those people who are not from the Jewish society (OV – अन्यजाहतयोों this “other jaatis” needs more clarification – other compared to who?)

36. All the nations – MYG har samaj ke logon ko – The people of all societies. The biblical meaning is people group/ethnic group not modern countries. In the Indian context samaj is a flexible word that can be used for the people of my immediate/local geographic community/samaj (South Delhi) and other local societies far and near (North Delhi, East Los Angeles), my specific ethnic/language group (Hindi samaj) and other ethnic/language groups (Gujarati, Bhojpuri, Telegu samaj), my national society (Bharati/Indian samaj) and others (Pakistani, Nepali, Canadian samaj), Religious group (our Hindu samaj) and other religious groupings (our Muslim samaj, our Jain Samaj). (OV - सब जावतयहों पर – Today, in general, the focus is away from caste identification. And, this can give the idea people who are not Hindus (like tribals, and muslims and Europeans) are not included in terms like “sab jaati”
Mattiyah 24:14 जब परमात्मा के साम्राज्य के बारे मेों शुभसोंदेश दुवनया भर मेों प्रचाररत ्ह चुका ्हगा और िर समाज के लोगोों को बताया जा चुका ्हगा, तब युग का अोंत ्ह जाएगा।
37. Faith (related to God) – Aastha (pure religious word for faith)
Mattiyah 16:8 प्रभु येशु ने य् जानकर उनसे क्ा, “मुझमेों तुम््ारी आस्था बस इतनी ्ी ्ै? तुम इस सहच-विचार मेों क्यहों पड़े ्ह वक ्मारे पास रहटी न्ीों ्ै?
(OV - विश् िास, not as common as aastha for a term for faith in God – more related to believing concepts or for trust in a person. Both MYG and OV use “vishwas” for this)
38. Eternal life – MYG Moksha – one of the four stated aims of life for many Hindus. Hindus have various meanings of this word from the non-biblical meaning of complete absorption into God to a possible overlap of biblical meaning where spiritual moksha can be experienced in this life! (as in the recent Hindi film “Maharaja” - “मुझे तह जीते जी महि वमल गया!”) Historically some Hindu writers taught a view of moksha that is similar to the Biblical view. Acharya Ramanuja’s (10th century) taught that we do not lose our identity in God, but can enter into a great, loving relationship with God (moksha) that lasts even after death. Indian Christian leaders like Appasamy and Fakirbai have also used moksha to refer to eternal life as spending eternity in bliss with God (yet keeping our own identity), through the sacrifice and grace of Muktidata Prabhu Yeshu. (OV - अननत जीिन this word does not give any positive meaning of life with God, and in general Hindu thinking, everyone has everlasting life through multiple rebirths – the opposite of what we want to say)
Lukas 10:25 तब एक धावमभक विधान का ज्ञानी उठा और उसने प्रभु येशु कह परखने के ललए पूछा, “गुरुजी, मोक्ष* प्राि करने के ललए मुझे क्या करना चाव्ए?”
39. Day of judgment – MYG aache aur bure karmon ke nyay ke din, literally, “last day” but its meaning is “the end of the world when the time that God will judge all people will come. (OV वपछले वदन – on the last day what will happen?)
John 12:48 परोंतु जह लहग मुझे और मेरे सोंदेश कह अस्िीकार करते ्ैों, अच्छे और बुरे कमों के न्याय के हदन उनका इनसाफ मेरे द्वारा बहले गए सत्य के आधार पर वकया जाएगा।
40. (Mosaic/Israel’s) law – MYG Moshe ke niyam aur shiksha -- This is the Yahudi religious book of law (nomos/Greek) and instruction (torah/Hebrew).
Mattiyah 12:5 और क्या तुमने मोिे के हनयम और शिक्षा मेों य् भी न्ीों पढ़ा ्ै वक आराम-वदिस के मौके पर भी पुरहव्त मोंवदर मेों काम करते ्ैों, लेवकन कहई न्ीों क्ता वक उन्होंने पाप वकया ्ै।
41. Worship – MYG - bhakti, devotion (this is an active word, faith/love/devotion) used properly for Paramatma and Prabhu Yeshu
Mattiyah 4:10 प्रभु येशु ने उससे क्ा, “मुझ से दूर ्ट शैतान, क्यहोंवक परमात्मा-ग्रोंथ मेों य् ललखा ्ै, ‘तुम केिल अपने प्रभु परमात्मा की ्ी भहक्त और सेिा करह।’”*
Important words in churches/satsangs
1. Church/congregation – MYG satsang, paramatma ka satang, prabhu Yeshu ka satsang. Assembly of [true] Devotees, can be used for small house satsangs or large ones. (OV – kalisiya – Greek word with unclear meaning, not used by most Hindi-speakers)
Mattiyah 16:18 पतरस, मेरी बात सुनह। तुम््ारे नाम का अथभ ‘चट्टान’ ्ै, और इस चट्टान पर मैों अपने सत्सोंग* की नीिों डालूाँगा और मृत्युलहक की शवि इसे रहक न पाएगी।
2. Elder -MYG satsang ka anubhavi sevak - difficult choice for this word, bade or budhe restricts the meaning to very old people. Luke uses “servants of the word”, “experienced servants” keeps the “tested” requirement of eldership, as well as the similarity with deacons. (OV – प्राचीनहों, this calls the leaders/elders “ancient ones”. This does not seem appropriate!)
1 Timotiyas 4:14 उस अद्भुत िाणी और िरदान कह मत भूलह जह परमात्मा ने तुमकह सत्सोंग के अनुभहव सेवकोों के माध्यम से वदए थे जब उन सेिकहों ने आशीिाभद देने के ललए तुम््ारे लसर के ऊपर ्ाथ रखा था।

5. Devotee Brothers and sisters – bhakt bhaiyo aur bahano - We use this when no other previous word is used – if we have “dear brothers and sisters” or “my brothers and sisters,” we just use it without bhakt. Also, we sometimes use only brothers and sisters if bhakt seems overly used in the context. (OV – भाइयह, incomplete, as most new translations indicate, this means both brothers and sisters who have faith in muktidata)
Romiyon 1:13 भक्त भाइयो और बिनो,* मैों न्ीों चा्ता वक तुम इससे अनजान र्ह वक मैोंने बार-बार तुम््ारे पास आने की यहजना बनाई थी, परोंतु अब तक मेरी यहजना मेों बाधा पड़ र्ी ्ै।

9. Christian, believer (in Lord Yeshu) – Muktidata Yeshu ka bhakt/Yeshu Bhakt - bhakt has both the idea of faith and loving devotion (OV – मसी्ी, used some, but the English वक्रश्चन used more OV - विश् िासी used without the content of what type of believer; believer is seen as a lighter word than devotee/bhakt)
Acts 26:28 इस पर राजा अवग्रपा ने पौलुस से क्ा, “क्या तुम मुझे तुरोंत मुक् तदाता येिु का भक्त बनना चा्ते ्ह?”
Acts 16:1 पौलुस दरबे और ललस्िा श्र प्ुाँचे। ि्ााँ वतमहलथयस नामक लशष्य था जह येिु भक्त य्ूदी मव्ला का पुि था, पर उसका वपता ग्रीस देश से था।

12. The FAITH, Christianity - Yeshu Bhakti – This is everything about devotion to/faith in Muktidata Yeshu, including the history of his devotion, his satsang and all work in his name (OV - विश् िास, this is missing some of the meaning)

13. Grace – MYG kripa - this seems to be more common and communicate better than anugreh (OV- अनुग्र्)
Yohan 1:17 जैसे वक परमात्मा ने उनके प्रििा महशे द्वारा विधान कह वदया,* उसी प्रकार परमात्मा ने मुक्क् तदाता येशु* द्वारा कृपा और सत्य वदए।
14. Idolatry – MYG murtiyon ki bhakti – this highlights the idea of devotion to idols which should only belong to Paramatma and Muktidata Yeshu. (OV- मूवतभपूजा focuses on the act of idolatry instead of the inner motivation which seems to be more instructive)
Gal. 5:20 मूहतमयोों की भहक्त, जादू-टहना, दुश्मनी रखना, लड़ाई-झगड़ा, जलन रखना, गुस्सा से भरे र्ना, स्िाथी, फूटडालना, गुटबोंदी,
15. Righteousness of Paramatma - MYG “Paramatma kis tarah hamare bure karmon ka khata mita dete hain aur hamen dharmi banate hain”. Paramatma's saving action through faith in Prabhu Yeshu whereby he erases the record of our sins and makes us righteous devotees. (OV - परमेश् िर की धावमभकता difficult to understand what is being referred to)
Romiyon 1:17 परमात्मा हकस तरि िमारे बुरे कमों का खाता हमटा देते िैों और िमेों धमी बनाते िैों, इसका खुलासा शुभ सोंदेश मेों वकया गया ्ै और य् पूरी तर् से आस्था पर आधाररत ्ै। परमात्मा-ग्रोंथ मेों ललखा ्ै, “धमी भक् तहों कह परमात्मा पर आस्था रखने से महि वमलेगा।”
16. Resurrect – MYG marne ke baad bhi zinda kar diya hain. Even after dying to come back to life. Zinda is an Urdu word, but in certain contexts such as this one it is more natural and powerful than jivit/ji utha. (OV - जी उठा)
Mattiyah 28:6 ि् य्ााँ न्ीों ्ैों, वकोंतु जैसा उन्होंने क्ा था, परमात्मा ने उन्ेों मरने के बाद भी शज़न्दा कर हदया िै। आओ, और इस स्थान कह देखह ज्ााँ उनका शि रखा गया था।
MYG process to Transliterate biblical names:
We note that there are original Hebrew pronunciations for 8 key names in the Old Testament that are also in the NT (see chart below, the one other one, Matityahu, is not in the OT, but in the Hebrew book of Maccabees*). New Testament authors slightly changed these Hebrew sounding names into Greek sounding names (though when these events took place in Israel, it is likely that the biblical characters did not speak with Greek accents!) In 1500’s English Bible translators then modified these Greek sounding names to match each other in English (For example, Moses became Moses in both testaments instead of Moshe in Hebrew and Moises in Greek). Then in the 1800’s Hindi OV translations also modified these names to be more like Urdu/Arabic names. We (and Biblica Saral Hindi Bible) have chosen to use their original Hebrew-sounding names for consistency throughout the entire Bible and respect for their real names.
